The Oktawave platform distinguishes between two types of OCI templates that could serve as a model during the launch of new OCI. Here we describe their characteristics and differences. PRIVATE TEMPLATE - this type of template can be used only for your own needs. This means that if you create a template of this kind, then only you (and the users of your account) will be able to launch new OCI based on this template. Fees for storage of private templates are calculated according to the ...

The instances may be assembled in the containers by function (e.g. the instances serving the same application). Due to this there exists an option of launching a service that balances a traffic between several instances grouped in the container. When the HTTP traffic is being balanced, a request (HEAD) is being send to the instances grouped in the container. In case of a lack of the WWW server response, such server is being marked as unavailable within 2 seconds with one of the codes in th...

Data related to the account could be divided in two categories: general data and users' data. General data includes information about the entity (a person or a company), the account was registered on. The second category relates to each user's data (users who have an account administration permission). In order to edit general account data, select ACCOUNT ǀ MANAGE ACCOUNT. Then choose EDIT ACCOUNT. This step enables to edit all the contact data. A client is not allowed to change a...

INTERNET CONNECTION VERIFICATION In case of the problems with connection to the OCI instance it is strongly recommended to verify a transmission quality from another location. The aim of this is to determine, if the problem did not result from a network provider failure or if a current IP address was not blocked by a firewall. There is also a need to check, if MTR tool displays loss of the packets. In case the connection is established form a company network, be aware that local settings co...

Oktawave is an infrastructure-based service and currently does not provide directly domain managing tools. If a need for an additional facilities on this area occurs, a user could install his own DNS server on the Oktawave instance as well as use third party solutions. The exception is revDNS entry. Editing of revDNS entries is one of the primary conditions of mail server operating properly. This entries can be edited in the Oktawave admin panel. To do this, go to the SERVICES | NETWORK ...

Sometimes we have to deal with the operating system that just won't boot, file system failure or unrecognized system disk. A good solution for moment like this is to use one of several system images available in Oktawave, that you can boot by the network in order to solve the problem. To boot system over the network, we need to enforce the kind of instance startup using a remote console. We do this during the initial phase of the boot, by pressing F12. You have to remember to do it quickly (...

Tech-support is an account which is used in the process of launching a new instance of the OCI. Moreover, in an emergency, our administrators can use it to give you help in the management of the instance (with the consent of the instance owner). Each user can also delete the Tech-support account. However, in the absence of an Tech-support account we will not be able to help in the configuration of the system if the need arises.

Well-planned redundancy is necessary in order to ensure high availability of service, and thanks to subregions you can achieve the same level of redundancy that ensures physical separateness as dedicated servers while retaining all the benefits of using the cloud. Cloud computing platform Oktawave on a physical level consists of computing clusters. Clusters are mutually physically separable in the area of one data center. This applies to every internal aspect of the cluster: * comput...

The name of the account can be changed via the Customer Service Department, just write an e-mail to support[at]oktawave[dot]com, or submit such a request using the ticketing system (in the admin panel, go to the tab ACCOUNT | ORDERS). If the change of account name is not enough, then you can move servers by following these steps: * In the admin panel make instance export to the OCS ...

Our API currently supports two methods of data exchange. The first one is based on XML/SOAP and this is the original version of the communication interface, which is available on our platform. At the same time we introduced support for the so-called JSON light. Both interfaces (endpoints) are fully compatible with each of the names of the methods that are widely described here: http://docs.oktawave.com/api/v1.0/ [1]. The standard addresses for API communication: * JSON https://api.oktawave....

In standard, to any Windows environment two users can connect simultaneously using the Remote Desktop Service. However, you may want to have greater number of access accounts. In such situations, you need to buy an additional license. When considering the purchase of Microsoft license, you should know that in standard model you are purchasing a license called Client Access License (CAL). In virtualized environments, equivalent of this license is a Subscriber Access License (SAL). In Oktawave o...

Monthly settlement is established in advance for level of use your machine in a whole month. So, as you tell us that the instance will be used by you for 720 hours at a given level then Autoscaler is not available. The fee is charged in advance. Note: we did not specify prices for this type of settlement yet, it will be obviously more attractive than the normal conversion - (1h cost) * 720. Hourly settlement relates to the actual use of resources by user. In this case Autoscaler works and ...

While working on the Oktawave platform architecture assumptions we made a decision that the entire solution will be agnostic in the terms of hypervisors. The second decision was the choice of VMware vSphere as the virtualization controller to be served first. In addition to the known advantages of using vShpere there are few other - Oktawave specific - benefits: * availability of comprehensive hypervisor API, which allows a relatively quick integration time, * stability and flexible ...

Hard disk capacity is expressed in gigabytes, but how to define its performance? Well, we can achieve it with the help of the parameter called IOPS (Input / Output Operations Per Second), which defines the number of read and write operations which disk drive can make per second. Now try to imagine the situation where a single server with certain number of hard drives runs many environments assigned to different clients. This context can easily lead to the situation where one customer overl...

Standalone Applications service is designed to run environment in the shortest possible time, without installing and configurating. According to this, there is only access to the application (e.g. via web browser), without the ability to manage OCI on system level. To use the full functionality of the server, you should create an OCI instance, using one of the templates.

Yes, but this functionality concerns only unshared discs. The instance where is plugged at least one shared disc in precludes changes of Tier class for each kind of disc plugged to this instance in. To make changes, you have to unplug all shared discs or turn off the instance first. Be advised that you can not change Tier class of the disk if the OCI instances attached to it contains snapshots.

If it is system hard disk, OCI shutdown is required before reconfiguration. Disk capacity of any additional OVS can be increased on running instance. It is not possible to decrease storage capacities because of data security. Be advised that you cannot increase the size of the disk if the OCI instances attached to it contains snapshots. You can read more about it in this tutorial [1]. Links: ------ [1] https://kb.oktawave.com/Knowledgebase/Article/View/221/5/how-to-change-size-of-the-ovs-...

Snapshot in Oktawave cloud computing platform is part of the copy-on-write process. This functionality registers any changes made in storage on all hard drives plugged into the OCI instance. This means that any action at the instance after snapshot is stored parallel. To return to previous state of machine, you simply remove the snapshot. Then the data will be removed, thus restoring the instance state before snapshot. This functionality allows you to include i.a. quick recovery of data...

Clone is a type of split-mirror snapshot. Clone creates a copy of all the data on storage spaces that are attached to OCI. Every time the process is run, it creates similar OCI instance with all volumes. This tool simplifies recovery, duplicating or archiving processes for all data on specified instance.

The maximum continuous average achievable from a single SN is the 3 GB/s for both writing and reading. Within the next few weeks these values will change, because we are still working on our drivers. Our storage concept is based on the so-called distributed storage nodes (SN), which execute read and write transactions, while replicating data between them. Currently, the total maximum throughput IO for 4 KB size block, for 100% random read is 5.8 million IOPS. One SN can handle at a time (in one second) about 1.2 million IOPS for the above scenario. In the test configuration, which reached 1 million IOPS in a single instance, we had four parallel disk volumes attached to that instance, ...

Technically, we can also disable the ability to recognize the resources in general, if you de...
